WHL: (PG Cougars)

Prince George Cougars  2  Seattle Thunderbirds  1  (SO)

Cougars goalie Taylor Gauthier made 34 saves including a spectacular highlight-reel glove stop off of Owen Williams with the game on the line in overtime.

The Cougars would eventually win the game after Cole Moberg tallied the winner in the fourth round of the shootout before 1,851 fans at CN Centre.

It was the first shootout win in five opportunities for Prince George.

Roddy Ross made 24 saves as Seattle outshot Prince George 35-25.

The Cougars finished a six-game homestand with a 4-2 record after completing the sweep of Seattle.

They beat the Thunderbirds 6-4 Tuesday.

Seattle holds the final Western Conference wild-card playoff spot by seven points over P.G. with each team having 19 games left.

The (16-26-3-4) Cougars and (20-23-3-3) Thunderbirds meet again Sunday (on both Feb. 9th and 23rd) in Seattle.

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings)

Wenatchee Wild  3  Prince George Spruce Kings  2  (SO)

Spruce Kings goalie Carter Woodside blocked 37 of 39 shots before 849 fans at the RMCA.

Wenatchee won the shootout 2-1.

Prince George picked up a point after erasing a 2-0 deficit with 10 minutes left in the third.

The (17-28-3-4) Spruce Kings, with just seven regular-season games left, host the (10-37-1-3) Merritt Centennials on Friday.

Prince George is last in the Mainland Division, 6 points behind the (21-25-2-1-1) Langley Rivermen.

The Spruce Kings have already clinched a playoff spot sitting 15th out of 17 teams in the overall standings.

The top 16 qualify for the post-season.

It appears Merritt will be the odd team out.

NHL: (2 Wednesday games)

New York Rangers  5  Toronto 3

The Leafs have traded forward Trevor Moore and draft picks to the LA Kings for goalie Jack Campbell and forward Kyle Clifford.

Boston  2  Chicago  1  (OT)

The Vancouver Canucks are 2-1-1 on a five-game road trip that concludes tonight in Minnesota (5:00 p.m. PT).

The (30-19-5) Canucks lead the Pacific Division by three points over Edmonton, four over Vegas and Arizona and five over Calgary.

There are a dozen games total tonight in the NHL with Toronto the only Canadian team idle.

Both Alberta teams are on home ice as Edmonton hosts San Jose and Calgary entertains Nashville.

BCMML: (Cariboo Cougars)

The Cariboo Cougars host the (7-26-0-1) Greater Vancouver Canadians Saturday night at 4:30 and Sunday morning at 10:30 at Kin 1.

The (20-10-1-1) Cougars are in 5th place in the 11-team league while the Canadians are at the bottom.

Cariboo has just eight regular-season games remaining, all at home.

Canada West Basketball: (UNBC Timberwolves)

The UNBC Timberwolves will conclude their regular-season in Canada West basketball with home games against the MacEwan Griffins this weekend.

The women play Friday at noon and Saturday at 5:00 p.m. while the men tip-off Friday night at 6:00 and Saturday evening at 7:00.

The 9-9 UNBC women have won six straight and have clinched a playoff spot sitting in 8th place out of 17 teams.

The 4-14 UNBC men have lost 11 in a row and are in 13th place.

The top 12 teams advance to the playoffs.

The only way for the UNBC men to make the playoffs is if they win both games against MacEwan, and Brandon loses both games against Manitoba.

MacEwan is 2-16 in both the women’s and men’s divisions.

NBA:

Toronto Raptors  119  Indiana Pacers  118

The (37-14) Raptors scored the final 11 points of the game to stretch their winning streak to a club-record 12 games.

The same teams meet again Friday night at 5:00 (PT) in Indiana.

The Raptors are 2nd and the (31-19) Pacers 5th in the Eastern Conference.

PG Iceman:

The 33rd Prince George Iceman will be held on Sunday starting from the Otway Nordic Centre at 10 am.

Close to 500 athletes will participate including 50 in the solo division.

The course consists of 8km cross country ski, followed by a 10 km run, 5 km skate, a 5 km run, and an 800 metre swim at the Aquatic Centre.
