Concerned seniors call for accessible housing in College Heights

Oncore Seniors Society is looking for a location for its second seniors’ housing unit in Prince George.

The North Central Seniors Association is hoping to bring it to College Heights due to a lack of senior housing in the area.

“This is not only for now, this is for the future of College Heights because we have nothing,” said Maurice LaPointe, North Central Seniors Association President.

LaPointe explained those in need often have to leave the neighbourhood.

“There are so many people from College Heights who are in Riverbend, or someplace else downtown.”

150 expressions of interest forms were drafted for the community, and LaPointe said he only has 32 forms left as of today (Monday).

According to LaPointe, the plan is still in its preliminary stages, but he is one of many supporters in College Heights.

“We have apartments going up but none that are suitable for seniors per se,” explained Helen Eberherr, another supporter.

Riverbend Manor, located on 20th and Pine street, is Oncore’s other location.
