WHL: (PG Cougars)

The Prince George Cougars celebrate Family Day with a home game this afternoon at 2:00 against the (19-31-2-3) Red Deer Rebels.

The game is a sellout as CN purchased all of the tickets and then handed them out to the public.

The (16-29-3-4) Cougars, who have 16 games remaining, are 9 points behind (21-26-3-3) Seattle and 12 back of (24-26-1-2) Kelowna in the race for the two Western Conference wild-card playoff spots.

The Rebels are 18 points out of a wild-card berth in the Eastern Conference.

Calgary Hitmen  4  Prince George Cougars  2  (Saturday)

The (30-18-4-1) Hitmen built up a 4-0 lead by scoring twice in the first 8 minutes of the first period and two more goals in the first two minutes of the second.

Taylor Gauthier, on his 19th birthday, allowed four goals on 16 shots before he was replaced in the P.G. net by Tyler Brennan.

Filip Koffer and Josh Maser tallied for the Cougars, who suffered their third straight loss before 4,012 fans at CN Centre.

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings at the LNG Road Show in Kitimat)

Langley Rivermen  2  Prince George Spruce Kings 1   (OT-Sunday)

Prince George Spruce Kings  5  Langley Rivermen  1  (Saturday)

The (18-31-3-4) Spruce Kings host the (45-8-1-1) Coquitlam Express Friday and Saturday to close out the regular season.

Coquitlam has the best record in the BCHL.

The Spruce Kings will finish 15th out of 17 in the overall BCHL standings and will play the Trail Smoke Eaters in the first-round of the playoffs.

The (34-16-2-1-1) Smoke Eaters are second in the Interior Division.

BCMML: (Cariboo Cougars at Kin 1)

Cariboo Cougars  6  Kootenay Ice  3  (Sunday)

The Major Midget Cougars extended their winning streak to six games.

Cariboo Cougars  4  Kootenay Ice  2  (Saturday)

The (24-10-1-1) Cougars have four games left on their schedule, all on home ice.

They are in 5th place in the 11-team league but only a couple of points out of 3rd.

Cariboo will host the (25-8-0-2) Fraser Valley Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at Kin 1.

The Cougars also entertain the eighth-place North Island Silvertips on Feb. 29 and March 1.

NHL: (9 Sunday games)  Canadian teams went 3-2

Anaheim Ducks  5  Vancouver Canucks  1

The loss meant the Canucks slipped into second in the Pacific Division one point behind Edmonton as the Oilers beat Carolina 4-3 in overtime.

Vancouver is a point in front of Vegas and three ahead of Calgary and Arizona.

The (32-22-5) Canucks are 2-2 on a six-game homestand that continues Wednesday against Minnesota and concludes Saturday vs. Boston.

There are five Monday games in the NHL including Anaheim at Calgary (1:00 PT) as the Flames are the only Canadian team in action.

Curling:

B.C. (Corryn Brown of Kamloops) is 2-1 in Pool B after Sunday’s action at the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Moose Jaw.

B.C. will play (2-1) Ontario in Draw 8 tonight.

Alberta is off to a 3-0 start in Pool A.

The Canadian champion will advance to the World Women’s Curling Championship in Prince George March 14th-22nd.

Canada West Basketball: (UNBC Timberwolves)

The UNBC Timberwolves will visit the Calgary Dinos in the Canada West women’s basketball quarterfinals Thursday night (5:00 PT).

The Dinos finished first in the regular season with an 18-2 record, including two convincing victories over UNBC (71-46 and 67-58) on January 3rd and 4th.

The Timberwolves are riding a nine-game winning streak after they eliminated the Lethbridge Pronghorns 93-85 in double overtime on Friday.
