WHL: (PG Cougars)

The Prince George Cougars have fallen 11 points behind Seattle for the last Western Conference playoff spot after the Thunderbirds beat the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-2 Tuesday.

Prince George has 15 games left (including six at home) and Seattle has 13 remaining.

The (16-30-3-4) Cougars, who have lost four straight, visit the Everett Silvertips on Friday and Seattle on Sunday.

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings)

The Prince George Spruce Kings conclude their regular season with home games against the (45-8-1-1) Coquitlam Express Friday and Saturday.

Coquitlam has the best record in the BCHL.

The (18-31-3-4) Spruce Kings will finish 15th out of 17 in the overall BCHL standings and will play the
(35-16-2-1-1) Smoke Eaters in the first round of the playoffs.

The best of seven series will feature a 2-3-2 format starting in Trail on Feb 28th and 29th and returning to PG on Monday, March 2nd.

The Smoke Eaters are second in the Interior Division.

NHL: (Canadian teams went 2-2 Tuesday)

The (32-22-5)  Vancouver Canucks are 2-2 on a six-game homestand that continues tonight at 7:30 against Minnesota and concludes Saturday vs. Boston.

Vancouver is third in the tight Pacific Division, one point behind Edmonton and Vegas, and one point ahead of Calgary and Arizona.

The Canucks have lost Brock Boeser for eight weeks after initially saying he would be re-evaluated in three weeks.

Boeser (who has 45 points in 56 games) suffered a rib cartilage fracture against Calgary on Feb. 8th.

Edmonton is the only other Canadian NHL team in action tonight as the Oilers host Boston.

The Vegas Golden Knights have acquired defenceman Alec Martinez from the L.A. Kings for a pair of second-round draft picks.

The 32-year-old Martinez has spent his entire NHL career with the Kings, who drafted him in 2007.

The NHL trade deadline is Monday.

BCMML: (Cariboo Cougars at Kin 1)

The Cariboo Cougars host the (26-8-0-2) Fraser Valley Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at Kin 1.

The Cougars, who have won six straight, also entertain the eighth-place North Island Silvertips on Feb. 29 and March 1 to conclude their regular season.

The (24-10-1-1) Cougars are in 5th place in the 11-team league, just four points behind second-place Fraser Valley.

Curling:

B.C. (Corryn Brown of Kamloops) will play Nova Scotia in a tie-breaker Thursday morning at the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Moose Jaw.

The winner advances to the Championship Pool of 8.

Both teams tied for 4th place in Pool B with a 4-3 record after Nova Scotia beat B.C. 10-4 this afternoon (Wednesday).

B.C. beat Newfoundland and Labrador 8-6 this morning.

Ontario and Wild Card finished 6-1 in Pool B followed by P.E.I. at 5-2.

With one draw left in Pool A, Manitoba is 5-1 with Northern Ontario, Canada and Saskatchewan next at 4-2.

The Canadian champion will advance to the World Women’s Curling Championship in Prince George March 14th-22nd.

Canada West Basketball: (UNBC Timberwolves)

The UNBC Timberwolves visit the Calgary Dinos in the Canada West women’s basketball quarterfinals Thursday night (5:00 PT).

The Dinos finished first in the regular season with an 18-2 record, including two wins over UNBC (71-46 and 67-58) on January 3rd and 4th.

The (12-9) Timberwolves are riding a nine-game winning streak.

NBA:

The Toronto Raptors end their All-Star break when they host the (22-33) Phoenix Suns on Friday.

The (40-15) Raptors are second in the NBA Eastern Conference.
