Following concerns about an ageing population and limited long-term care and housing options, some Prince George seniors have chosen to take action.
The North Central Seniors Association hosted a public information session last night (Thursday) at Columbus Community Centre, looking to rally support for affordable, accessible housing in College Heights.
“All the baby boomers are starting to get to the stage where they need housing, and we have nothing for seniors in College Heights,” said President of North Central Seniors, Maurice Lapointe.
Lapointe believes that the area is particularly attractive, saying: “it has all the amenities, what better place to build it?”
He also acknowledged the importance of subsidized senior housing, where income and savings are acknowledged when considering rental fees.
North Central Seniors Association aims to allow people to continue living in their current neighbourhoods as they age.
