“It brings recognition to what the arts mean in our community,” Mayor on PG’s Black and White Ball

A collaboration between three Prince George art organizations and Mayor Lyn Hall has now entered its third year following an official confirmation today (Tuesday).

The Mayor’s Black and White Ball for the Arts is a fundraising event for The Community Arts Council of Prince George & District, the Prince George Symphony Orchestra, and Theatre Northwest.

“It’s kind of a way to consolidate various groups and performers throughout the arts community,” said Sean Farrell, Executive Director of the Prince George Arts Council.

“As affordability becomes less and less reachable in some of the larger urban centres, we’re seeing artists and performers actually leaving bigger cities… they look at Prince George and think ‘this is wonderful’… we’re seeing an influx of people who want to start something new here,” Farrell added.

“It’s an opportunity to enjoy the rich and exciting cultural offerings that Prince George has,” said Theatre Northwest’s General Manager, Marnie Hamagami.

Canadian Tire will be the title sponsor and has donated $10,000 to support the event.

“We’re fortunate enough to have been involved for the third year in a row,” explained Selen Alpay, Canadian Tire store owner.

Prince George’s Mayor Lyn Hall also endorsed the importance of the event, saying:

“It brings recognition to what the arts mean in our community.”

The 3rd Mayor’s Ball will take place on May 9th, 2020.

Tickets are available at Books and Company or online.
