UNBC T-Wolves soccer inks Burnaby-born defender Madison Taylor

The UNBC’s women’s soccer team has announced the commitment of Madison Taylor for the 2020 Canada West season.

Taylor, 18, who hails from Burnaby, made two visits to the Prince George University Campus over the past year and was able to practice with the Timberwolves.

“I chose the Timberwolves because of the family dynamic I instantly felt the first time I stepped on the field with those girls. They were super welcoming and willing to answer any questions I had,” she explained.

A BCSPL league veteran, she served as captain at that level and is confident her maturity and skills will translate to the next step in her career.

“I am a very technical player. I have always been recognized by my coaches for how well I can control and manipulate the ball. I can read the field and visualize the field really well.”

The five-foot-seven defender describes herself as calm, composed, and commanding, but the goal of playing in high-level university athletics came in to focus while competing at the U-14 level.

She started playing soccer at age five and says the game has brought her joy and a sense of purpose ever since.

“The first time I touched the ball, I instantly fell in love with it. Growing up, I played a lot of sports, but soccer was the constant in my life. It is where my passion is. Rain or shine, I want to be on that field, and I want to be playing with that ball.”

The Burnaby Central grad plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science with a major in Psychology before eventually going into law.
