A Prince George RCMP officer sustained a broken hand while arresting a break and enter suspect.
Police received a report of an attempted Break and Enter to a residence on the 600 block of Ahbau Street on Wednesday night at about 5:30.
Officers attended the area and one of them was directed towards a suspect by a witness near the Spruceland Mall.
The officer confronted the suspect and attempted to arrest him.
The suspect assaulted the officer with a crutch and fled across Highway 97 on foot.
Several minutes later, the suspect was located in the bathroom of a restaurant on Central Street near 5th Avenue.
The same officer attempted to arrest the suspect and was again assaulted.
Other officers assisted and the suspect was taken into custody.
A 21-year-old local man was held in custody overnight and will appear in court later today, pending charge approval.
