The season is over for the UNBC Timberwolves men’s basketball team. The UBC Thunderbirds beat the visiting Timberwolves 88-78 before 1,572 fans at War Memorial Gym. UBC won the best of three Canada West quarter-final series 2-0. The Thunderbirds took control of the game early by building up a 28-9 lead after the first quarter.
UNBC guard Rhys Elliott put up a team high 19 points. It was the last game in a Timberwolves uniform for Jeff Chu, Franco Kouagnia, and Devin McMurtry.

–Jansen Harkins scored 33 seconds into overtime to give the Prince George Cougars a 5-4 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds. Zach Pochiro set up the winner and finished with two goals and two assists. Harkins also had four points (one goal and three assists). The Cougars move within one point of the third place Vancouver Giants in the BC Division and within three of the Tri-City Americans for a Western Conference wild card spot. The Giants lost 4-0 to Kelowna while the Americans lost 4-0 to Spokane. Prince George stays two points in front of the last place Kamloops Blazers. The Blazers beat Victoria 4-2. The Cougars visit the Everett Silvertips tonight while the Blazers host the Giants.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings exploded with four goals in the third period to rally for a 5-3 triumph over the Langley Rivermen in a playoff preview. The Spruce Kings finished with three power play goals, a short handed goal and an empty netter. Prince George moves within one point of second place Langley in the BCHL Mainland Division. The rematch goes tonight at the PG Coliseum to conclude the regular season with the winner to get home ice advantage in their first round playoff series that will begin Tuesday.

–The major midget Cariboo Cougars, who have already clinched top spot, visit the Okanagan Rockets tonight and Sunday to wrap up the regular season in the BCMML. The Rockets are in 4th place.
