Prince George Cannabis store worker and Health Canada are warning parents on the importance of safe Cannabis storage.
Several instances of children being sent to the hospital for accidental cannabis consumption have been reported, according to Health Canada.
“It’s the same as alcohol consumption, you have to respect it,” adds local Cannabis store worker who asked to remain anonymous for job safety, “kids need to have it out of their reach in a safe spot where they can’t get ahold of it.”
The warning comes based on a Canadian study looking at the cause of accidental cannabis consumption.
The study reveals 33% of children sent to the hospital under these circumstances were found to have consumed edibles.
“All the packaging (of edibles) is done so it doesn’t draw the attention of children, but unfortunately anybody that can read will see it is a raspberry gummy or blueberry gummy, and that can lead to trouble,” adds the worker, “I would like to see the containers of edibles child-proofed.”
According to Health Canada, many of the reported cases come after the cannabis products were being stored in fridges or freezers without child-resistant packaging.
The health agency is also warning Canadians to only buy edibles from authorized stores as they must be sold in child-resistant packaging and the level of THC is regulated.
