Northern Health has issued its first potential COVID-19 exposure to a school.
According to the health authority, Ecole Frank Ross Elementary School in Dawson Creek reported a possible exposure between September 10th and 11th.
Today (Friday), BC Teachers Federation President Teri Mooring said the north needs to be taking the pandemic more seriously.
“There is no community that is safe even though what we are seeing in some cases is a real half-hazard approach to their safety measures as well as other places in Northern BC.”
Mooring stated 10 schools in the province are under a health authority’s public exposure list and is concerned we may be following the same trend as Alberta.
“Teachers are really raising the alarm and are saying it’s the second week of school. We are concerned that as we go forward into the school year, those standards that have been set, which are already inadequate will be relaxed, we have a lot of concerns about that.”
“We have a lot of families without other choices. It’s rare that families can have an adult in the home so they’re children can learn through distributed learning or through a remote learning option. We know that it’s not going to be available for all families.”
No other schools across northern BC are listed including Prince George.
In addition, the Teachers Federation also filed a complaint to the Labour Relations Board to address concerns regarding the safety of the province’s back to school plan.
