New concept plan approved for University Hospital of Northern BC upgrades

The provincial government has approved a concept plan for a new patient care tower and cardiac care unit at the University Hospital of Northern BC in Prince George.

Currently, the project looks to be in the range of $600 – 700 million, Health Minister Adrian Dix said in his announcement today (Sept 20).

“This would make it the largest capital project in Northern BC,” stated the Minister.

Approving the concept plan is a significant step, he added.

“There was a profound need for upgrades,” Dix noted. “This will bring the hospital into the 21st century.”

Local Liberal MLA Shirley Bond responded to the announcement on her Twitter page, saying the project is something she has been lobbying for.

“Thankful that the residents of Northern BC will have the services they require and that Adrian Dix and I discussed this numerous times. I am proud of the acknowledgment of my efforts and thankful to see this move forward,” the MLA wrote.

The project would see approximately 100 more beds added to the facility.
