Five shootings, fire tied to drug conflict between rival groups: Prince George RCMP

Five recent shootings and a fire are being tied to the drug trade according to Prince George RCMP.

Most of the incidents have been targetted attacks and involved firearms.

Police report two rival groups involved in the drug trade have been directly associated with the majority of the incidents, including two shootings yesterday (Sept 21) evening.

Monday night shootings hours apart

Reports of shots fired on Bellos Street in Prince George came in just before 11:00 pm, and police found firearm damage on a home nearby.

Three hours later, a report of a woman being shot and needing medical attention was reported from the 2600 block of Norwood Street.

The 23-year-old was found suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the shooting likely occurred three blocks away, outside a building on the  2800 block of Oak street.

“All persons associated to either of these groups are at an increased risk of harm,” said Corporal Craig Douglass.

“The Prince George RCMP have allocated considerable resources to stopping this dispute.”

Early morning fire

Emergency services were called to a residential fire on the 4400 block of First Avenue earlier this morning (Tuesday) at about 1:30.

The blaze is believed to have been set deliberately.

The fire was extinguished with most of the damage on the front of the house.

The two adult occupants and their pets escaped without any reported injuries.

Three shootings in four days last week connected

Police also responded to several incidents last week, starting with an early morning shooting in the McIntyre Crescent area on September 15.

A house with two adults and three children inside was targetted but no injuries were reported.

Police believe a vehicle was involved but fled before officers arrived.

On the evening of September 17, police were called to a residence on the 400 block of Quinn Street for reports of what is believed to be a drive-by shooting.

The three occupants of the home were not injured.

Meanwhile, on September 18, officers received a third call of shots fired on the 1100 block of Vancouver Street.

Officers located a home where at least one shot had been fired, however, no injuries were reported.

“A common factor in each investigation is that the persons being targetted are not cooperative with police,” Douglass added.

The people involved also reportedly do not have firearms licenses or the ability to legally purchase firearms.

“The firearms used in these disputes are usually acquired through the theft of guns from legal gun owners,” said Douglass.

Fourth incident unrelated: Police

RCMP also responded to a shooting on Uplands Street on September 17th, not believed to be related to the dispute.

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP or Crimestoppers.
