PG woman threatens local restaurant staff with needles

A 50-year-old Prince George woman was taken into custody by the RCMP following a bizarre incident yesterday (Wednesday).

Police received a hold-up alarm just after 1:30 PM from a restaurant on the corner of 20th Avenue and Victoria Street where the female was threatening staff with needles.

Once officers arrived, the suspect was located and arrested without incident.

Upon further investigation, the woman was found to be in possession of stolen cheques and was breaching the conditions of a release order from a previous incident.

The female was believed to be intoxicated by drugs and was heavily agitated before and during contact with police.

She will appear in court later today (Thursday), pending charge assessment from the BC Prosecution Service.

Cpl. Craig Douglass told MyPGNow.com this is not a call they receive often.

“Specifically to this incident, we don’t usually have something like this where we have someone flailing needles around at a restaurant both at staff and at customers. That was unusual and I can’t recall a similar incident to that, fortunately, no one was hurt.”

Police have responded to a series of shootings and a fire over the past week related to a pair of rival groups.

Douglass added while officers have been busy dealing with the recent shooting spree this isn’t being viewed as a unique time for crime in PG.

“Aside from the shooting incidents and the cluster that we had, I wouldn’t really say this is an unusual month with the exception of those. We do deal with drug-induced individuals, intoxicated and violent people on a daily basis.”

Police made a dent into the string of recent violence in the northern capital by arresting eight people at a home on South Lyon Street, which included two men aged 21 and 28.
