Water back on in Buckhorn after nearly two weeks

The water is flowing in the community of Buckhorn again.

A pump failure had left the area dry for nearly two weeks, according to Sherry Slovak, co-owner of the Buckhorn Bed and Breakfast.

She says the community really came together, both to get the new pump installed, but to share the water they did have.

“I could see people with their tractors going down the road with big jugs of water,” she says. “Giving it to the neighbours.”

Slovak says though she got off lightly, but after the pump failure, she came to realize just how much we take running water for granted.

“We had drinking water here and hygiene here for a few days, but that quickly ran out because we use too much water,” she says, adding that a lot of her supply went to help her neighbours who ran dry a lot sooner than she did.

She says her business wasn’t effected too seriously by the water shortage and her one guest “just rolled with it”.

“He said ‘Don’t worry about it,’ because he would go to the gym every day to shower,” she says. “He was really awesome. We had gallons of water for hygiene from the neighbour’s well.”
