CNC president calls lay-off news “premature”

CNC’s President is clearing the air over news of possible lay-offs.

Henry Reiser says the college is suspending intake for dental hygiene program to re-assess its tuition and delivery costs as they look to recoup a $2.8 million shortfall.

“Once all of those matters are dealt with, and the program is reconfigured, then we are able to charge what would be a current rate and we would then go forward with the delivery of [the dental hygiene] program,” he says.

Reiser says programs may be suspended, but not eliminated, though he goes on to stress that such actions would need to be approved with the budget set for March 27th.

“We need to announce the lay-offs, if there are going to be any, by the end of March, the process is starting now, what that number will look like is unknown at this time,” he says.

Reiser says suspending intake for the dental hygiene program, and potentially others is unfolding this coming school year. “By about 2016/2017 we would look at re-launching that program in its new form,” he says.
