Petition created to rename Community Foundation park after local Terry Fox fundraiser

Prince George resident Jim Terrion has raised over $800,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation and now his community wants to give back to him.

A petition has been created to rename the Community Foundation Park, home of the local Terry Fox statue, after Terrion.

“Jim is a loved and respected member of the Prince George community and has come to be expected knocking on doors with a ‘big smile and pledge sheet in hand,'” said Scott McWalter, the petition’s creator.

In 1990, at age 29, Jim Terrion walked across Canada in honour of his hero Terry Fox to raise money and awareness for the deaf and hearing-impaired.

Now, 30 years later, he is approaching his fundraising goal of $1 million, and still raising significant amounts of money for the foundation.

Each year, he goes door to door in Prince George to collect pledges for the Terry Fox Run.

However, due to Covid-19 the 2020 Terry Fox Run was moved online.

Despite this, Terrion still was able to raise $9,645 for the charity this year.

“Jim is living proof that one person can make a difference! You are such an inspiration! Go get that million,” reads one of the signatures.

“He’s just an amazing individual,” reads another post on the page.

Currently, the petition has received 264 signatures.
