Provincial Health Officer Dr.Bonnie Henry has officially identified the recent uptick in cases as BC’s ‘Second Wave’ of COVID-19.
499 people tested positive over the course of a 72-hour period, raising BC’s total to 11,687.
5 of the cases are from Northern Health, bringing the region to 355.
Between Friday and Saturday, 172 cases were identified, between Saturday and Sunday, 153 cases were found and between Sunday and today (Monday) there were a record 174 people diagnosed.
There are 1,639 active cases in BC, (14 in the north) with 67 people in the hospital, 19 of which are in ICU.
The north has one person battling COVID-19 in the hospital and another is in ICU.
338 people have recovered in the region as the recovery rate stands at 95% which is higher than the provincial recovery rate of 83.5 %.
2 more people died from the virus over the weekend, raising the death toll to 253, three have been in the North.
One community outbreak was identified in Fraser Health.
There have also been 4 new health care outbreaks.
There are now 19 active health care outbreaks and 4,028 people under active public health monitoring.
“There continues to be a transmission of COVID-19 in many parts of the province,” explained Henry,” while this is expected, we all need to remain vigilant to slow the spread as much as possible.”
