Prince George man charged following early morning break and enter

26-year-old Skyler Joseph Jakesta has been charged with a number of offences after a break and enter this morning (Wednesday).

Police responded to a report of a commercial Break & Enter at a large retail store on Domano Boulevard just after midnight.

When a Police Dog Service team arrived on the scene, they noticed damage to the front doors and witnessed a suspect attempting to break into a secured firearms storage area.

The suspect then fled the building, where he met frontline officers waiting for him with handcuffs.

Police say the suspect was in possession of a hunting knife and axe at the time of the arrest while wearing clothing from the store.

Surveillance images and a thorough search of the store have led officers to believe the suspect was acting alone despite the significant amount of damage being found.

The suspect failed to access the firearms storage area.

Jakesta recently moved to Prince George and has been the subject of many police contacts in and around northern B.C communities in the past 5 months.

He will appear in court later today (Wednesday) after being charged with:

  • Break & Enter to Commit an Indictable Offence
  • Break & Enter with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence
  • Break & Enter with Intent to Steal Firearms
  • Possession of Break-in Instruments
  • Fail to Comply with Probation
