Gas line severed in downtown Prince George

Prince George Fire Rescue responded to a reported natural gas leak in the 1000 block of 5th Ave this afternoon (Wednesday) about 4:00.

According to a news release, when seven firefighters from two halls arrived they found a gas line had been severed due to work in the area.

Crews cordoned off the area and monitored adjacent buildings for any signs of natural gas.

Fortis BC responded to the incident and fire personnel remained on scene to assist the crews from Fortis.

No other information has been provided by the PG Fire Rescue.

Emergency crews are on the scene tonight of a gas leak downtown.

“We’re in the early stages of dealing with what appears to be a gas leak,” explained Prince George Fire Chief, John Iverson.

Police have blocked off sections of the 5th ave and George Street area.

“I don’t believe it is inside of a buidling and I don’t know how many people are affected,” noted Iverson.
