There’s another option for trick-or-treating in Prince George this year.
In response to the social distancing guidelines, a group of PG residents has created a new way for children to safely participate in trick-or-treating.
On Saturday night (October 31), trick or treaters can participate in a ‘Candy Cruise’.
“The Candy Cruise is a community-wide event that will keep people in their houses and keep trick or treaters safe, ” explained Dave Horton, Director of the Candy Cruise Prince George.
“You load up in your car with your family or whoever you’re with and there are ten hub locations all across Prince George that you drive up to and each location will have between 4 to 8 candy vendors and different attractions,” he added.
Some of the hubs will be in Blackburn, College Heights and the Hart, where there will be cosplayers, candy vendors and movies all set up to safely bring the community together.
“You drive past all the different vendors and never get out of your car then you hold your bag out of the window and volunteers will dump candy into your bag from a distance with tongs or a scoop,” Horton explained.
PG Tourism Marketing and Brand Manager, Annie Doran claims most people are looking forward to having an alternative for traditional trick or treating.
“That goes from all over town, it goes from 4:30-9 pm and this is a way we can social distance and still get our candy and wear awesome costumes. There are lots of locations so I don’t think anyone will be lacking candy that’s for sure.”
Event planners are preparing to see around 3,000 kids from about 2,000 cars.
The organizers of the cruise are encouraging residents to avoid buying and handing out candy, and instead donating the money that would’ve been spent on candy to their website.
All additional funds raised from the Candy Cruise will go to the Child Development Centre, Big Brothers Big Sisters in Prince George and Ness Lake Bible Camp.
