Theatre Northwest presents a duo of new stage readings this weekend

Theatre Northwest will be hosting two new presentations this weekend.

‘Smoke Sturgeon’ is written and directed by Prince George local, Solomon Goudsward and takes the stage on Friday night.

The theatre company describes Smoke Sturgeon as “a philosophical comedy about a philosophical drama based on a melancholic poet’s search for meaning and clarity amidst the hazy landscapes of the self and industrial urban north.”

To adhere to social distancing recommendations, the show will be acted out by 5 local actors through a stage reading medium to a limited audience.

On Saturday night, a stage reading of ‘Gary: a Sequel to Titus Andronicus’ will take place.

“The playwright has done a lot of unique, cross-genre, genre-bending kind of theatre,” explained Director, Anna Russell, “you will see a lot of that in the play.”

According to Russell, the show intersects with Shakespeare’s ‘Titus Andronicus’ and was nominated for seven Tony Awards during its time on Broadway.

“When I first read it I didn’t know how we were going to pull it off as a stage reading because there’s a lot of physical comedy with the actors and set,” explained Russell, “but I think we’ve managed pretty well.”

Three actors will be presenting the show through a stage reading, however, Theatre NorthWest warns that it is not suitable for children.

Tickets to both presentations are now available on the Theatre Northwest website.
