BC reports 1,933 cases of COVID-19, 17 deaths since Friday; 61 infections found in Northern Health

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to take its toll across the province.

1,933 new cases have been reported in BC since Friday, including 61 in Northern Health, marking a total of 27,407 cases province-wide.

Of the total cases, 7,360 are active.

The North has seen a total of 649 infections, with 153 considered currently active.

Cases by day:

Friday – Saturday: +713

Saturday – Sunday: +626

Sunday – Monday: +594

17 more people have died from the virus, the death toll is 348.

Hospitalizations have also seen a surge; 277 people are in hospital (+50) and 59 people are in intensive care.

“We’re in a very challenging time of the COVID-19 pandemic and we are asking for everyone’s help to slow the spread of the virus in our province. As we have seen, this virus doesn’t pause when we are tired and doesn’t wait for us to catch up,” said Provincial Health Officer Doctor Bonnie Henry.

“This means that right now, we all need slow down our social interactions and increase our layers of protection to get over this next hurdle together. Over the next two weeks, we need to reduce the level of transmission in our province to relieve the stress on our health-care system and keep our schools and workplaces open.”

10,200 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of an exposure.

In addition, six new healthcare outbreaks have been declared including one in Northern Health.

North Peace Seniors Housing Facility in Fort St. John has reported six infections among residents.

Northern Health: 649 (+61)

Outside of Canada: 93 (+2)
