PG ski bums could receive early Christmas present; Hart hill predicts early opening

The Hart Highlands Ski Hill is expecting to welcome skiers and boarders as early as next Saturday (December 5th) if weather permits.

However, this year’s ski season will look a little different as a number of changes have been made to adhere to provincial health orders.

“The lodge now has square tables to separate the different groups of people taking a break from their ski day, out on the hill masks are required, also the lineup has changed so you won’t be as close to each other,” explained Casey Johnson, Board member of the Hart Highlands Ski Hill.

Even with the changes, the hill is expecting a large volume of visitors as pandemic restrictions have pushed people to participate in more outdoor activities.

“We expect a great year, in the last two seasons we’ve been hitting over 100 ski days with our snowmaking and mother nature helping out as well,” added Johnson, “we find that with COVID, people are finding time for recreation.”

The Ski Hill’s annual fundraiser has been cancelled, however, they are now selling 50/50 tickets for $10 at the hill and Canadian Tire.

“It’ll help a great community hill, it has been around for 50 years and we want to keep it around for another 50,” he added.
