“At it’s peak, 7,300 customers were without power,”: BC Hydro on PG windstorm

About 90% of BC Hydro customers who were impacted by yesterday’s (Tue) massive windstorm in Prince George have power once again.

At its peak, 7300 customers were left in the dark.

However, Northern Spokesperson, Bob Gammer reminded residents to remain patient with power and vegetation crews and to not remove power lines or fallen trees on their own.

“Trees were down on power lines because of the high winds and we had situations where we had wire down on the ground tangled up with trees. One worry actually is people starting to get a little frustrated and potentially taking matters into their own hands and actually cutting some of these trees away unblocking roads.”

“Power lines could still be live even if they are down on the ground and people are then putting themselves at great risk to be electrocuted.”

The remaining 10% of those affected should be back up and running today (Wed) according to Gammer.

On Tuesday, the City of Prince George issued a bulletin that a section of 5th Avenue needed to be closed due to the windstorm.
