Interprovincial travel in BC remains unrestricted for time being

BC Premier John Horgan announced today (Thursday) that he will not be restricting interprovincial travel at this time.

Horgan explained that he reviewed the legal options following some concerns about interprovincial travel from BC residents.

“The review of our legal options made it clear we can’t prevent people from travelling to British Columbia,” explained Horgan, “we can impose restrictions on people travelling for non-essential purposes if they are causing harm to the health and safety of British Columbians.”

He explained that if there is an increase in transmission due to interprovincial travel, there will be stronger restrictions on non-essential travel.

“Much of current interprovincial travel is work-related and therefore cannot be restricted,” added Horgan, “Public health officials tell us what is most important is for everyone to obey health orders, wherever they are, rather than imposing mobility rules.”
