Pink Shirt Day in PG aiming to reduce bullying in local schools

Prince George is taking part in Pink Shirt Day once again as the issue of bullying re-enters the spotlight.

The Canada-wide initiative began in 2007 after two high school students from Nova Scotia took action when a fellow student was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt.

Community Development Coordinator Jane Gauthier with the Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northern BC spoke with MyPGNow.com and said the slogan for this year is “Spark Kindness”

“There is a direct correlation between our mentoring programs and reducing bullying in our schools, which is really awesome to see. Our programs both support those who are being bullied as well as those who are bullies.”
