Government continuing to offer incentives for hybrid vehicle ownership

The Provinces clean energy vehicle program has been renewed, with incentives available to make clean energy vehicles more affordable.

The government will be offering up 5 thousand dollars for the purchase of a new battery electric or hybrid vehicle, and BC’s minister of Energy and Mines Bill Bennett, says there are several other benefits of going green as well:

“You are likely to save anywhere from $1600 to $2000 a year on fuel and if you happen to have one of those old clunkers out there a pre-2000 vehicle, you can trade that in and get another $3000. So you can actually apply $8000 in total to the purchase of an electric car”

Bennett says the first phase of the program kicked off from 2011 to 2014 and supported the purchase of around 950 electric vehicles and resulted in over 57,000 tonnes of emission reductions.
