Barker Street Cinema shining a light on independent filmmakers

Local Production Company, Barker Street Cinema will soon be streaming a selection of Stephen King movie adaptions on their Youtube channel.

From Friday to Sunday, Barker Street will host an online film festival called “Stephen King Rules”.

It will feature 28 submissions by filmmakers from all over the world that created their own adaptions of King’s work.

Since the late ’70s, King has allowed emerging filmmakers to adapt his previously unproduced short stories into films that may help launch their careers.

“As storytellers, we were looking for ways to do our part to help provide an escape for people that wouldn’t cost them anything,” said Barker Street Spokesperson, Norm Coyne.

While isolating during the pandemic, Coyne and his business partner, James Douglas, ended up getting the go-ahead from Stephen King himself to showcase this festival.

“The fact that James got the approval for an entire festival of stories from Stephen King himself is a total mind-bender,” added Coyne.

Stephen King Rules will also showcase some interviews and panel discussions with the filmmakers themselves.

Viewers can interact with the festival all weekend during their tweet-along party, by following on Twitter at @stephenkingrlz  with the hashtag #stephenkingrules.

The full festival schedule can be found on the Barker Street Cinema website.
