Spruce Kings and Powell River swap blueliners

The Prince George Spruce Kings got a little younger on the backend.

They acquired 19-year-old defenceman Ian Kern from the Powell River Kings in exchange for 20-year-old blueliner Zach Gabruch.

Kern,  spent the 2021 pod season on loan with the Surrey Eagles where he finished with four assists in 13 games played.

In 2019-20 with Powell River,  he tallied one goal and five assists in 54 games.

“We’re excited to add Ian to our team. He’s a veteran player who will be leaned on in key situations for us. He’s also a great individual who will add some more leadership on and off the
ice.” said Spurce Kings GM Mike Hawes
