Local comedians offer entertainment for a good cause

The Wheely Funny Garden Party is here for the summer to bring some comedy (and some beer, from Pacific Western Brewing) to your home, and raise money for cancer.

Local comedian Mike McGuire, and the GOAT’s own Cody Malbeuf raise funds for the Wheelin Warriors of the North, a cycling team that raises money for the BC Cancer Foundation.

“We show up at your house, for a 200 dollar donation, throw a socially distanced backyard comedy show. It runs roughly 45 minutes,” said Malbeuf.

“And it all goes to support the Wheelin Warriors of the North, who fight cancer here in Northern BC.”

He added the idea came from a comedian in Edmonton, Lars Callieou, who started Firepit Comedy.

“He was doing that the summer of last year. Myself and Mike McGuire saw it, and Mike had the idea of well, we could do the same thing here, and also help raise a bit of money for charity.”

The event raised over $8000 last year, even with fundraising being a bit trickier due to the pandemic.
