Ex Spruce King and Cariboo Cougar, Brandon Manning of Prince George, has signed a one-year, one-way contract extension with the Philadelphia Flyers. The deal is worth $625,000 for the 24-year-old defenceman. In the last game of the Flyers season, a 3-1 loss to Ottawa, Manning had 17:38 of ice time with no points, even plus-minus rating, one shot and two hits.
–Former Prince George Cougar Brett Roulston scored 20 seconds into overtime to give the Nanaimo Clippers a 2-1 victory over the Penticton Vees. The Clippers lead the best of seven Fred Page Cup final 2-0 with games three and four Monday and Tuesday in Nanaimo.
–The Kelowna Rockets needed overtime for a 4-3 triumph over the Victoria Royals. The Rockets lead the best of seven WHL Western Conference semi-final 2-0 with game three Tuesday in Victoria.
In other action: Portland nipped Everett 4-3 in double overtime to tie that second round series 1-1 and Brandon dumped Regina 5-2 to take a 2-0 lead.
–The Stanley Cup playoffs begin Wednesday with four Canadian teams in action as Calgary visits Vancouver and Ottawa plays at Montreal. The Winnipeg Jets start their post-season Thursday in Anaheim.
