Search resumes in North Shore Mountains for missing YXS bound plane

The search for Carson Air flight 66 resumed this morning at daybreak in the North Shore Mountains.

Richard de Jong with North Vancouver RCMP says they found a small debris field yesterday evening.

“The area that our searchers are actively engaged in is approximately 5 kilometres north of Mount Seymour. Currently it has fresh snow, it’s steep and treacherous so our search team along with ERT is making their way into the area where we believe the fuselage of the plane is.”

The cockpit, fuselage and two pilots have not been located, and police says they are still treating it as a “Search and RESCUE” operation.

De Jong says he expects investigators from the Transport Safety Board will join the investigation once the fuselage is found and that sunny skies today should help searchers. North Vancouver RCMP remains as the lead agency on the case.

The cargo flight left Vancouver bound for Prince George yesterday morning at 6:43am. It lost contact with NavCanada in Kamloops at 7:10am as it passed over the North Shore Mountains.

The airline of the missing plane, Carson Air focuses on cargo and air ambulance service.
