The Prince George Spruce Kings have four new player commitments for the 2015-16 season. The three forwards and a goalie were among over 100 hopefuls that attended the team’s Spring Prospects Camp.

Agreeing to terms with the Spruce Kings are 1997 born forwards Nic Ponak and Parker Colley, 1998 born forward Kyle Johnson and 1998 born goaltender Liam McCloskey. All four played this past season in the BC Major Midget League. Ponak suited up with the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds while Colley, Johnson and McCloskey were part of the Vancouver Northeast Chiefs provincial championship team.

The four new recruits will be at the Spruce Kings Main Training Camp in late August.

–Canada scored six unanswered goals in the second period in an 11-6 victory over Latvia on the opening day of the World Under-18 Hockey Championship in Switzerland. Jansen Harkins of the Prince George Cougars had one of the goals for the Canadian team.

–Greg Chase scored 5:30 into overtime to give the Victoria Royals a come from behind 5-4 victory over the Kelowna Rockets. The Rockets still lead the second round series 3-1 with game five Friday in Kelowna. The Royals erased a 4-2 deficit with a pair of goals just 24 seconds apart midway thru the third period.

In other WHL playoff action: the Calgary Hitmen doubled the Medicine Hat Tigers 2-1 to take a 3-1 lead in that Conference semi final and the Brandon Wheat Kings edged the Regina Pats 3-2 to go ahead 3-1 in their series. Tonight in Portland, the Winterhawks host the Everett Silvertips with the series even 1-1.

–Nearly 300 swimmers from nine clubs will participate in the Prince George Barracudas Medical Moose long course Meet at the Aquatic Centre. Competition begins Friday night and wraps up Sunday afternoon.
