Theatre Northwest has announced its upcoming productions for the 2021-22 theatre season.
Opening the season is a show by the name of “The Marvelous Wonderettes” which is choreographed by Anna Russell, who is also the Assistant Director.
It will feature two local actresses, Shelby Meaney and Maggie Trepanier, and Russell says utilizing local talent in Theatre Northwest productions is important to the PG community.
“When we bring people in, it’s lovely to work with a diverse range of talent and we learn things from people all the time but then they go home and they don’t continue to make art and do theatre in our community. So if we’re building and fostering that community and that talent, those people stay, and maybe they help with creating projects for schools or maybe younger people see them and relate to them in the audience then they later see them at the mall,” she explained.
The show is a musical that will feature pop songs from the 1950s and ’60s, it will be running from November 18th to December 8th.
Next up is “Glory” by Tracey Power, a production that is based on the true story of the Preston Rivulettes, a women’s hockey team in the 1930s.
Artistic Associate Bradley Charles says “Glory” is built around swing music and will feature a lot of choreography that will portray the hockey games.
“It’s a really beautiful story that kind of shows their struggle for equality both on and off the ice,” Charles explained, “the choreography, the athleticism of this work is just outstanding.”
“Glory” will be running from February 4 to February 23rd.
To conclude the season, “Moms the Word: For Crying Out Loud” will take the Theatre Northwest stage from April 14 until May 4.
“It was written by six female playwrights, all of whom were actresses and mothers as well. It’s really about telling and sharing all these amazing stories about being a parent, which a lot of people can identify with,” explained Artistic Associate, Melissa Glover.
Both “Glory” and “Moms the Word: For Crying Out Loud” will also feature local artists on the stage.
All of the shows will be presented in compliance with public health orders, and tickets will be available on the Theatre Northwest website on October 1.
