BCHL (PG Spruce Kings)

Prince George Spruce Kings  4  Merritt Centennials  0

The Spruce Kings finish 2-1-1 in the pre-season.

They open their regular season against the Centennials on Friday in Merritt.

Prince George will also play the Warriors in West Kelowna on Saturday before hosting Merritt on October 15th and 16th.

The PG Spruce Kings have dealt forward Corey Cunningham to the Trail Smoke Eaters for future considerations.

 

WHL (PG Cougars)

Start of the regular season before 2,425 fans at CN Centre

Kamloops Blazers  5  Prince George Cougars  4  (Saturday)

Connor Levis snapped a 4-4 tie on the power-play with 4:51 left in the third period. The goal came just 2:14 after the Cougars tied the game with a power-play goal from Captain Jonny Hooker. Hudson Thornton led the Cats with a  goal and two assists.

The Cougars visit the Vancouver Giants Friday and Kamloops on Saturday.

Their next home games are against the Victoria Royals on October 16th at 7 PM and October 17th at 2 PM.

The Cats are carrying 25 players, three goalies, eight defencemen, and 14 forwards.

Six of the players are rookies and four are 20-year-olds (one over the limit); goalie Taylor Gauthier, defenceman Majid Kaddoura plus forwards Jonny Hooker, and Connor Bowie. (Gauthier sat out Saturday)

The (4-1-0-1) Northern Capitals host the (4-0) Fraser Valley Rush Saturday night at 6:00 and Sunday morning at 9:45 at Kin 2.

The U15 Cariboo Cougars ended their weekend with a split.

Sunday morning at Kin 1, they beat the Greater Vancouver Canadians 3-2 in overtime.

On Saturday, the Canadians beat the U15 Cougars 3-2.

The Cougars now have a 1-2-0-1 record, good for fifth place in the 10-team division.

The Canucks play their next exhibition game on Tuesday when they host Seattle at 7:00.

The Blue Jays finish their season with a 91-and-71 record and out of the playoffs.

Toronto was one game back of the Yankees and Red Sox for the two American League wild-card spots.

Seattle finished a game behind Toronto and two back of Boston and New York.

The Yankees visit the Red Sox Tuesday night at 5:00 with the winner to play the Tampa Bay Rays.

The National League wild-card game Wednesday night at 5:10 has St. Louis at the LA Dodgers.

Triple-A Baseball:

Jared Young of Prince George batted .254 since getting called up to AAA with the Iowa Cubs. The 26-year-old first baseman finished with five homers and 18 RBI’s in 37 games with the Iowa Cubs, who had their season end on Sunday.

Monday night football to conclude Week 4 has Las Vegas at LA Chargers.

Las Vegas is 3-0 and one of just two unbeaten teams. Arizona is 4-0.
