Hixon Volunteer Fire Department to receive new fire hall

Firefighting efforts in Hixon will be getting a huge boost.

According to the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (RDFFG), a new three-bay fire hall building is coming to the Hixon Volunteer Fire Department.

Over 1-million dollars in grant funding was secured through the Investing In Canada Infrastructure Program.

In addition, the RDFFG approved an updated Regional Solid Waste Management Financial Plan.

This will include forecasted budget revenues and expenditures for the next 10-year period using a number of sources of information including the Integrated Landfill Management Plan.

It also proposes an incremental increase to tipping fees, progressive increase of requisitions, review of the current small load tipping fee, and the potential of introducing a drop-off fee for yard and garden waste.

The Board also approved the following requests for Community and Recreation Grants:

• $38,000 to the Ness Lake Recreation Commission for community hall roof replacement
• $60,000 to the Nukko Environmental Lake Weed Society for purchase and maintenance of a weed
harvester
• $1500 to the Ness Lake Recreation Commission for Halloween celebration
• $1000 to the Miworth Community Association for fireworks
• $3000 to the Pineview Recreation Commission for Halloween celebration
• $4500 to the Dunster Fine Arts School Society for insurance
