Hospitals in Quesnel and Smithers continue to battle COVID-19 outbreaks

More COVID-19 cases have been identified at GR Baker Hospital in Quesnel and the Bulkley Valley District Hospital in Smithers.

Both hospitals are currently dealing with outbreaks, and Northern Health has confirmed that an additional 3 patients and 3 staff members have tested positive at GR Baker.

That is on top of the original two patients and two staff members that tested positive at GR Baker, prior to an outbreak being declared back on October 14th.

All of these cases are associated with the Inpatient Unit at the hospital, and Northern Health says none are considered active.

Meanwhile, one additional case has been identified at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital.

Northern Health Spokesperson Eryn Collins said there has been a total of five patients who have tested positive associated with the outbreak.

The outbreak was originally declared on October 19 where four patients tested positive with one death.

Collins added confirmation of additional cases is not unexpected because of the focus on testing and monitoring.

Meanwhile, the outbreak at the Wrinch Memorial Hospital in Hazelton has not seen any additional cases since the update on October 15.

To date, eight patients and two staff have tested positive and one death has been reported.
