The results from Prince George’s idea pitching project “Titan’s Den” are in, and four of the nine entrepreneurs walked out with funding for their ideas.
Five local business titans sat through nine aspiring participants, who ranged from students to inventors, and side business operators, pitching them ideas, and $11,000 in total was handed out on October 27th and 28th.
The project is similar to CBC’s Dragon’s Den, but the event isn’t held in public and the business leaders aren’t taking a cut from successful projects.
Courtney Hayhurst, one of the contestants, received $3,000 in seed funding for a cultural podcast startup.
“The experience of pitching was exciting and one of the most fulfilling things I’ve ever done in my life. I felt honoured to participate.”
“I know that the funding and advice I got from the Titans will help set me up to achieve really good things going forward,” added Hayhurst.
This is the second production of Titan’s Den, with the first one being held in 2020.
“The event has evolved so much in just one year and the support of the titans has been crucial to its success,” said Melissa Barcellos, manager of economic development.
“We can’t wait to see what happens in the years ahead as Titans’ Den grows. It is exciting to see the progress of the entrepreneurs with the seed funding, the advice, and the encouragement from the titans.”
