Major apartment complex slated for Foothills Boulevard

A five-storey, 95-unit apartment complex on Foothills Boulevard has been given the green light by city council.

Last week, the city voted in favour of a variance permit to allow the project to go through.

Leon Schroeder is a senior associate with Station One Architects who says this is phase two of a three-part complex.

“The first building under construction is 67 units, the second building, which is 95, units, they plan to start construction in probably late spring, they are hoping for May. There will also be the third building as well and they hope to start that at around the same time.”

“There will be units ranging from smaller, more affordable studio units to larger two-bed units so a wide range of sizes and unit types. We will also have one-bedrooms, some with a den as well.”

He added new developments of this kind are badly needed.

“I know in Prince George there’s been a lack of new apartment buildings for years. To have something that is new and up to the current building code and new design standards – it’s been lacking in Prince George and this will be a welcomed addition I think.”

The building will be operated by Kamloops developer Kelson Investments, which owns over 50 apartment buildings in Alberta and BC including 10 in the northern capital.

Kelson owns the Forest Glen and Carriage House complex on Glen Shee road, which is just north of the new development.

The newest addition to the Forest Glen complex opened this fall and is now available to rent.
