Update: Highway 97 south of Prince George re-opens following fatal pedestrian collision

BC Highway Patrol has confirmed to MyPGNow.com Highway 97 south of PG has re-opened to single-lane alternating traffic. The Independent Investigations Office has been notified of the incident and they are trying to confirm if there is a connection to police actions in this matter. No additional information is being made available at this time.

Update 11:55 AM

PG RCMP confirmed to MyPGNow.com that the fatal incident did involve a pedestrian.

Earlier at 9:00 a.m.

RCMP and BC Highway Patrol are in the early stages of investigating a fatal collision on Highway 97 near Widdis Road in the Woodpecker area, 45 km south of Prince George.

According to a BC Highway Patrol spokesperson, they are investigating a suspicious circumstance.

Emergency crews are currently on the scene after responding to the call this morning (Wednesday).

The incident has forced the closing of the highway while police investigate.

Investigators are asking any witnesses, including persons with dashcam video, that may have traveled through this area between 1:00 and 2:30 this morning, to contact the Prince George RCMP at (250) 561-3300.
