The Lheidli T’enneh First Nation has unveiled a new flag, which will be raised to full mast next month.
January 4th will mark the end of the ‘215 Day Memorial Period’ for the 215 children found at the former Kamloops Residential School. In June, Lheidli T’enneh Chief and Council requested all partners who fly a LTFN flag to lower them to half mast for 215 days.
“It has put First Nations first and foremost in front of everything in Canada,” said Chief Dolleen Logan, “Unfortunately, this is absolutely the wrong way for First Nations to be front first.”
“When we first heard about the 215 students, it was very impactful for me because the very first job I had was working at an elementary school, and we had 215 students, so I know what 215 faces looks like,” said Councillor Joshua Seymour.
Chief Logan said the First Nation will be at City Hall to raise their new flags to full mast on January 4th, at 2:15 PM.
“It’s just like our old flag, it just has a little ribbon on the end,” Logan explained.
“It’s in forever remember the 215 children that started this whole investigation into looking to all the schools.”
In addition, all partners who fly a Lheidli flag are asked to raise one of the new Memorial Flags on January 4th.
