WHL:

The Prince George Cougars selected 11 players, six forwards, four defencemen, and one goalie in the WHL Prospects Draft which was held virtually on Thursday.

The Cougars first pick, 15th overall, was defenceman Tyson Buczkowski from Saskatoon.

Three players from Prince George were picked in the WHL Draft.

Forward Miguel Marques was taken by Lethbridge in the first round, 10th overall.

(Marques is the highest PG minor hockey player picked in the WHL draft since 2007 when the Prince George Cougars selected forward Brett Connolly 10th overall)

Forward Rebman Smyth was chosen in the third round by Saskatoon, 62nd overall.

Defenceman Kenyon McIsaac was selected by Everett in the ninth round, 190th overall.

Meanwhile, forward Diego Johnson of Fort Saint James was picked by Seattle in the sixth round, 120th overall.

The (8-14) PG Cougars visit the (11-7-0-3) Kelowna Rockets tonight before hosting the (18-4) Kamloops Blazers in the Teddy Bear Toss game on Saturday.

This season the Cougars are 0-4 against the Rockets and 0-3 against the Blazers.

Prince George is 7th in the Western Conference standings, but only a point ahead of both Spokane and Victoria and three in front of last place Tri-City.

Jordan Fairlie blocked 20 shots for the shutout before 577 fans at the RMCA.

The Vancouver Canucks have hired Jim Rutherford as President, Hockey Operations. The 72-year-old Rutherford will also assume interim GM duties while he leads the search for a new General Manager.

The (10-15-2) Canucks host the (13-9-4) Winnipeg Jets tonight at 7.

Vancouver is 2-0 under new head coach Bruce Boudreau and 2-1 on a six-game homestand.

BC Elite Hockey League: (AAA)

The (U-18) Cariboo Cougars visit the (6-7-1-2) Okanagan Rockets in Rutland Saturday night at 6:45 and Sunday morning at 10:00 in their final league games until the new year.

The (9-7-1-1) Cougars, who have won their last four, are in 5th place in the 10-team league.

The (8-7-0-1) U17 Cariboo Cougars host the (10-5-1) Okanagan Rockets Saturday night at 5:00 and Sunday morning at 11:00 at Kin 1.

CFL:

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tiger-Cats meet in the 108th Grey Cup game Sunday (3:00 p.m. PT) in Hamilton.

It is a rematch of the 2019 championship game.

There was no Grey Cup last year due to the pandemic.

Winnipeg beat Hamilton 33-12 in the 2019 Grey Cup as the Blue Bombers ended a 28-season championship drought.
