WHL:

Prince George Cougars  3  Kelowna Rockets  2

Tyler Brennan and Taylor Gauthier combined to make 37 saves as the Cougars beat the Rockets 3-2 before 4,062 fans at Prospera Place.

Kelowna outshot Prince George 39-22, including 22-2 in the third.

The 18-year-old Brennan stopped 19 of 20 shots through 43 minutes of work before leaving the game due to a lower body injury.

He was replaced by the 20-year-old Gauthier, who blocked 18 of 19 shots in just under 17 minutes of work.

Connor Bowie, Craig Armstrong, and Viliam Kmec scored for the (9-14) Cougars, who host the (18-5) Kamloops Blazers tonight at 7:00 in the Teddy Bear and Toque Toss game. 

A day after being selected in the first round, 10th overall, in the WHL Prospects Draft, forward Miguel Marques of Prince George made his debut for the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Marques did not get a point but had three shots on goal and was named third star in the Hurricanes 3-2 overtime loss against the visiting Red Deer Rebels.

Prince George Spruce Kings  4  Cranbrook Bucks  3  (Friday)

Kolton Cousins scored twice, including the winner with just under five minutes left before 1,000 fans at the RMCA.

The (13-7) Spruce Kings host the (10-10-1) Bucks for a third straight night this evening at 7:00.

Jordan Fairlie blocked 20 shots for the shutout before 577 fans at the RMCA.

The Canucks improved to 3-0 under new head coach Bruce Boudreau.

The (11-15-2) Canucks are 3-1 on a 6-game homestand that continues Sunday night at 7:00 against Carolina and concludes Tuesday night at 7:00 against Columbus.

BC Elite Hockey League: (AAA)

The (U-18) Cariboo Cougars visit the (6-7-1-2) Okanagan Rockets in Rutland tonight at 6:45 and Sunday morning at 10:00 in their final league games until the new year.

The (9-7-1-1) Cougars, who have won their last four, are in 5th place in the 10-team league.

NBA:

The (12-14) Raptors are 3-3 on a 7-game homestand that concludes Monday (4 p.m. PT) against the Sacramento Kings.

CFL:

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tiger-Cats meet in the 108th Grey Cup game Sunday (3:00 p.m. PT) in Hamilton.

It is a rematch of the 2019 championship game.

There was no Grey Cup last year due to the pandemic.

Winnipeg beat Hamilton 33-12 in the 2019 Grey Cup as the Blue Bombers ended a 28-season championship drought.
