WHL:

Prince George Cougars  3  Kamloops Blazers  2 (Saturday)

Taylor Gauthier made 48 saves and Ethan Samson scored twice to lead the Cougars before a sell-out crowd of 2,951 at CN Centre.

Samson opened the scoring 4:07 into the first period with the Teddy Bear Toss goal and later tallied the unassisted winner at 6:09 of the third to snap a 2-2 tie.

Kamloops outshot Prince George 50-26, including 19-9 in the third.

The (10-14) Cougars host the Vancouver Giants Tuesday and Wednesday.

 

Prince George Cougars  3  Kelowna Rockets  2  (Friday)

Tyler Brennan and Taylor Gauthier combined to make 37 saves before 4,062 fans at Prospera Place.

Kelowna outshot Prince George 39-22, including 22-2 in the third.

The 18-year-old Brennan stopped 19 of 20 shots through 43 minutes of work before leaving the game due to a lower body injury.

He is listed a day-to-day.

Brennan was replaced by the 20-year-old Gauthier, who blocked 18 of 19 shots in just under 17 minutes of work.

Tyson Dyck scored 26 seconds into overtime for the Bucks before 626 fans at the RMCA.

Prince George Spruce Kings  4  Cranbrook Bucks  3  (Friday)

Kolton Cousins scored twice, including the winner with just under five minutes left before 1,000 fans at the RMCA.

Jordan Fairlie blocked 20 shots for the shutout before 577 fans at the RMCA.

The (13-7-1) Spruce Kings visit Salmon Arm Friday and Vernon Saturday.

NHL: (12 Saturday games)

The (11-15-2) Vancouver Canucks are 3-1 on a 6-game homestand that continues tonight at 7:00 against Carolina and concludes Tuesday night at 7:00 against Columbus.

On Saturday night, Carolina beat Calgary 3-1.

The Canucks are 3-0 under new head coach Bruce Boudreau after Friday’s 4-3 shootout victory over Winnipeg.

BC Elite Hockey League: (AAA)

Okanagan Rockets  6  Cariboo Cougars  1

The (9-8-1-1) Cougars visit the (7-7-1-2) Rockets again this morning at 10:00 in Rutland in their final league game until the new year.

Cariboo is in 5th place in the 10-team league.

The (9-7-0-1) U17 Cariboo Cougars beat the (10-6-1) Okanagan Rockets 4-2 on Saturday night.

The same teams play again this morning at 11:00 at Kin 1.

Volleyball:

The Duchess Park Condors captured gold at the provincial double-A boys volleyball championship in Victoria.

The Condors, led by tournament MVP Chris Zimmerman, beat Langley Christian 3-1 (22-25, 25-10, 25-19, 25-21) in the final.

College Heights ended up 6th.

The Cedars Christian Eagles earned bronze at the provincial single-A boys volleyball championship in Nanaimo.

The Eagles got by Nanaimo Christian three games to one in the third place game.

 

CFL:

This is Grey Cup Sunday in Hamilton.

The Tiger-Cats and Winnipeg Blue Bombers meet in the 108th Grey Cup game today (3:00 p.m. PT).

It is a rematch of the 2019 championship game that was won by Winnipeg 33-13.
