$150,000 in cash seized following traffic stop near Valemount

Two men have been arrested and a significant amount of cash was seized after a traffic stop near Valemount.

On Monday (March 28th), BC Highway Patrol’s Traffic Safety Unit/Police Dog Service and the Integrated Impaired Driving Unit were conducting a joint forces operation on Highway 5 near Valemount, where a vehicle was stopped for speeding.

According to police, the two male occupants, both of whom are from Alberta, displayed behaviour which led officers to believe they were in possession of controlled substances.

Both men were arrested after a positive drug dog confirmation on the vehicle, which was subsequently searched.

Police say an estimated $150,000 in cash was found, along with six cell phones, and receipts indicating suspicious banking activity.

Both men are well known to police in western Canada. They were later released on conditions, and given a future court date, subject to Crown Counsel for approving charges.

Arrangements were also made to return the vehicle to the rental company.
