BC Summer Games 100 days away

The countdown to the BC Summer Games in Prince George is on.

Today marks 100 days to the start of the games.

The occasion was marked with a torch lighting ceremony in Canada Games Plaza.

The event featured singing, drumming, and a welcome from Lheidli T’enneh Elder Darlene McIntosh, and City Councillor and Acting Mayor, Garth Frizzell.

Host Society President Renee McCloskey says there’s still lots of work to do.

“Mainly we need to get more volunteers, so we’re really hoping that events like tonight draw some attention to the games, get people excited, and get them to sign up and help us out.”

She said they’re looking for people to do just about anything.

“We’re hosting these athletes for four days,” McCloskey said.

“It’s everything from food services, setting up the sports venues, helping out with medal presentations, you name it, we need it.”

“If people have a day, if they have a number of days to get involved, we’ll find space for you.”
