Potentially record cold overnight lows in store for PG’s Easter weekend

Environment Canada is calling for colder temperatures to persist in Prince George this Easter long weekend.

“Right now we’re still in that cold airmass but that will be moderating gradually over the weekend,” said Environment Canada Meteorologist Philippe-Alain Bergeron.

“Basically we’ll have especially very cold nights, but the days will be getting milder and milder.”

“It’s going to be clear for Saturday night, and sunny on Sunday. Often when it’s clear though, you get a lot more cooling at night, so the low is minus 9, so that’s not much of an improvement.”

Bergeron added the average temperatures for mid-April in Prince George are lows of -2 and highs of 10.

“It’s about five degrees or so below normal, and tonight we expect a low of -7.”

According to Bergeron, the record low for April 16th came in 1972, which was -7.8.

“That’s a possibility, and then again, on Sunday morning, for the 17th of April, the record low is -7.8, that was set in 1989. So if we do reach that -9, that would be a daily record for the 17th of April.”

For Monday, Bergeron says there could be a storm approaching Prince George, that could bring a mix of rain and snow that night.
