WHL:

Portland Winterhawks  2  Prince George Cougars  1

The Winterhawks swept the best-of-7 WHL Western Conference quarterfinal 4-0.

Ex-Cougar Taylor Gauthier made 29 saves for Portland while Tyler Brennan blocked 40 shots for Prince George before 1,727 fans at CN Centre.

The Winterhawks scored both of their goals in the first period and the Cougars’ only goal came from captain Jonny Hooker in the second.

The best-of-7 BCHL Interior and Coastal Conference finals will begin on Friday.

In the Interior, the West Kelowna Warriors visit the Penticton Vees while in the Coastal the opener features the Langley Rivermen at the Nanaimo Clippers.

The two series winners will meet for the Fred Page Cup.

NBA: 

The Toronto Raptors are facing elimination for the third time as they get ready to host the Philadelphia 76’ers in Game 6 tonight (4:00 p.m. PT).

The 76’ers lead the best-of-7 Eastern Conference quarterfinal 3-2.

If a 7th game is needed, it will be played Saturday in Philadelphia.

The Raptors are trying to become the first NBA team to ever win a series after losing the first three games.

NFL:

The first round of the NFL Draft will start just after 5:00 tonight (PT).

The Jacksonville Jaguars have the first pick followed by Detroit and Houston.

The New York Giants have both the 5th and 7th overall picks while the New York Jets have picks #4 and 10.

The Seattle Seahawks hold the 9th overall pick.

Rounds two and three will be held Friday (4:00 p.m.) followed by rounds four, five, six, and seven on Saturday (9:00 a.m.).

The 12-7 Blue Jays host the 8-11 Red Sox again this afternoon (12:07 p.m. PT) to conclude a 4-game series.
