PG schools getting new playgrounds through provincial funding

Two Prince George elementary schools are getting new playgrounds thanks to a funding boost from the province.

This year, the Playground Equipment Program (PEP) is investing $5 million in 30 new school playgrounds for 24 school districts throughout the province.

“Taking a break from the classroom and getting time outside to play gives children the opportunity to explore through play-based learning,” said Jennifer Whiteside, Minister of Education and Child Care.

“We know having space for kids to play safely is important for families and that’s why our government is committed to supporting students with accessible new playgrounds for many years to come.”

Each school district is receiving $165,000 towards building each school’s new accessible playground.

School District 57 is receiving the funding for playgrounds at two schools; Hart Highlands Elementary and College Heights Elementary.

According to the province, the new playgrounds will be designed, built, and installed over the next year.

Since 2018, the province has invested $30 million in the PEP to fund new playgrounds at 231 schools.
